Hi! We recently implemented Shifton in our company for automatic shift planning, and I’m a little confused. Does anyone use it in real-life situations? I’m wondering how realistic it is to rely on automatic planning rather than adjusting everything manually. For example, we have situations when employees want to change their schedule at the last minute, or someone gets sick, and the system doesn’t always take such nuances into account. How does it work? Does the system understand when employees are overloaded, for example, or do certain shifts require consideration of certain features, such as who works with whom in a pair? In general, is it worth relying on it completely or is it better to leave some space for human intervention?

We started working with https://shifton.com/shift-scheduling about a year ago, and I can tell you how the automatic employee schedule generator has proven itself in practice. In fact, it is a very convenient tool for planning shifts, but like any software, it is not perfect and requires settings for maximum efficiency. In terms of automatic planning, the system really helps. You can set work schedules, the number of working hours, acceptable breaks, and even employee preferences in advance, and Shifton will select shifts itself, taking these parameters into account. But this is where problems begin to arise – this is flexibility in real, unpredictable situations. For example, if someone gets sick or decides to change a shift at the last minute. Here, Shifton is no longer as versatile and convenient as we would like. In our company, we encountered situations when automatic replacement of employees in case of illness or for other reasons was not entirely ideal. That is, the system can offer a replacement, but it does not always know exactly how important a particular employee is for a particular shift or project. Therefore, you still have to intervene manually for this. However, these are exceptions rather than the rule, and in most cases the program works great.

Interesting topic, and it seems that Shifton can be a really useful tool for shift scheduling, especially considering the size of the company and the specific tasks. I have worked with this system as well, and I find that it greatly speeds up the scheduling process, especially if employees have pre-defined preferences or time constraints. But as mentioned, sometimes manual intervention is still required, especially when unforeseen situations arise. This is normal practice when the system cannot take into account all factors, such as personal preferences or the critical importance of a particular person’s presence on the shift.
