What’s your name?
My name is Subhasri Mazumdar, I am a Science and Chemistry teacher.
What’s your teaching experience?
I have taught A level Chemistry in AEC International school in Singapore for 5 yrs. After that, I taught Science in mid-level (grade 5 – 8) and Chemistry in Secondary level (grade 9-10) in Global Indian International school in Singapore for 4 years.
What qualifications do you have? (Bachelor’s in education, CELTA, TESOL, etc)
I am Masters in Applied Chemistry
How do you teach that helps students learn efficiently?
I like to teach Science by the method of enquiry-based learning which involves Interaction, Clarification, Questioning and Reflection.
I prefer to do Interaction by giving examples from daily life, using models or by doing hands-on experiments. Remote lab and virtual science labs, power point presentation and video clips are different techniques which I use to explain the topics. Mind mapping and Science text cards are highly useful techniques which are used to explain the scientific processes.
Detailed diagrams, illustrations or close up pictures allow students to virtually get inside the concept. Participating Science quiz and doing worksheets help the children to reflect their understanding.
Furthermore, the lessons are planned progressively so that students can follow them easily while building up their foundation.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
As a teacher, I get the opportunity to change the lives of my students. I like to enable my students to learn and grow as masterful readers, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers. I enjoy teaching challenging topics with different examples so that the students can visualize the concepts easily and can implement in their practical life. It helps me to grow everyday more and more creative.
I enjoy the relationship developing with my students-I can encourage children to dream, I want to ignite the spark of learning within them.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I enjoy learning doing new things like drawing, singing, exploring new food recipes.
