What’s your name?
My name is Stanley Ang and I am a Science and English teacher.
What’s your teaching experience?
I have taught English and Science to students of all ages from children to adults in my 15 years of teaching. I have taught in MOE and International Schools, as well as tuition centres. I’ve also taught children recovering from cancer in a rehabilitation facility, as well as a school for youths at risk.
What qualifications do you have? (Bachelor’s in education, CELTA, TESOL, etc)
BA in education from National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, specialising in English, Science and Music. I also hold a CELTA from Cambridge English Assessment. I have also completed an advanced course in teaching Cambridge Primary Science (International School syllabus) from Cambridge Assessment.
How do you teach that helps students learn efficiently?
I believe that getting students interested in learning is the most important thing. If students are engaged and interested, they will be curious to learn more. By coming out with fun and engaging activities with specific concepts in mind, I can immerse the students in a deeply engaging learning experience. To make online learning fun, I use a variety of platforms, videos, quizzes and powerpoint slides. Furthermore, the lessons planned are progressive so that students can improve their knowledge and answering skills in incremental steps.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
I have seen first hand the joy that students have when they are deeply engaged in learning. The young are our future. If they are curious about the world and curious about learning, they will become lifelong lerners and go far. When they see real improvement in their results, the sense of achievement they have is very heartening.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I play Celtic music as a hobby. My favourite instrument is the harp.
