Afghanistan Primary School Syllabus - Painting

Painting was previously part of the primary school curriculum in Afghanistan. Evidence suggests that it was included in the lower primary level (grades 1-3), alongside religious studies, Dari or Pashto language, math, and physical education. The Turquoise Mountain Murad Khani Primary School also taught calligraphy and painting as part of its curriculum.

However, more recent information indicates that painting, along with other arts subjects, has been removed from the national curriculum by the Taliban. Despite this, there are reports of painting classes and workshops being offered outside of the formal school system, providing opportunities for children to engage with art. There are also examples of art being used in educational settings to address broader themes, such as primary health care.
