Afghanistan History for Primary 4

Early Afghanistan:

Afghanistan has a very long history! People have lived there since around 7000 BC. Over time, many different groups and empires controlled parts of Afghanistan. One famous leader who conquered Afghanistan was Alexander the Great, around 330 BC. He brought Greek language and culture to the area. Later, in the 13th century, Genghis Khan and the Mongols invaded.

Modern Afghanistan:

In 1747, a leader named Ahmad Shah Durrani helped create the kingdom of the Afghans. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Afghanistan fought three wars with the British. Finally, in 1919, Afghanistan gained independence from British control. A king named Amanullah Khan tried to modernize the country in the 1920s.

Recent History:

More recently, Afghanistan has experienced many conflicts and challenges. The Soviet Union invaded in 1979, and the United States became involved after the September 11th attacks in 2001. There has also been fighting between different groups within Afghanistan. Learning about this history helps us understand Afghanistan today.
