Introduction to Albania
Albania, sometimes called the "Land of Eagles," is a small country located in Southeastern Europe. It's part of a region known as the Balkan Peninsula. Albania is bordered by several other countries: Greece to the south, North Macedonia to the east, Kosovo to the northeast, and Montenegro to the northwest. The western edge of Albania touches the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, giving it a long coastline.
Land and Features
Albania is mostly mountainous, with about three-fourths of the country covered by mountains and hills. These mountains are quite high, rising more than 650 feet (200 meters) above sea level. The highest mountain in Albania is called Korab. The coastal areas of Albania are lower and flatter, creating plains where people can live and farm. Albania also has several rivers and lakes.
Climate
Albania has a Mediterranean climate, which means it has hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
People and Culture
The people of Albania are called Albanians. Albanian is the official language of the country. Albania has a rich history and culture with influences from many different groups of people. |
