Argentina Upper Secondary School Mathematics

Overview

The Argentinian education system mandates primary school for ages 6-12 and secondary school for ages 12-17. Upper secondary education (educacion media) is mandatory and lasts from ages 14 to 18. Upper secondary education is also referred to as “Polimodal” education. Years 4-5 of upper secondary school fall within this Polimodal cycle. The Polimodal level typically lasts three years and offers specialized education. Students are required to hold a Bachiller or Tecnico diploma to enter higher education.

Curriculum

Mathematics is a core subject throughout primary and secondary school. Other core subjects include Spanish language, science, social studies, physical education, music, art, and a foreign language. While general information about the curriculum is available, specific details about the Years 4-5 mathematics curriculum content are difficult to find. Some resources mention the inclusion of problem-solving in secondary mathematics textbooks. The curriculum is set by the Education Council. There is some indication that statistics is included in the curriculum.
