Armenia 5th Grade Physical Education
The Physical Education curriculum in Armenia for 5th grade students is integrated with health education, primarily through the "Healthy Lifestyle" club activities. These activities became a mandatory part of the curriculum for 5th and 7th-grade students in public schools across Armenia following a successful pilot program in the Tavush region. The program is supported by several organizations, including UNFPA, UNICEF, UNESCO, and WFP, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.
Healthy Lifestyle Curriculum
The "Healthy Lifestyle" curriculum covers a wide range of topics related to health and well-being, including:
- Nutrition and Physical Activity: Promoting healthy eating habits and regular exercise.
- Growth and Hygiene: Emphasizing personal hygiene practices and healthy development.
- Safety: Educating students about safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Mental Health, Personal and Social Skills: Developing emotional intelligence, communication skills, and responsible decision-making.
- Relationships and Gender: Fostering healthy relationships and understanding gender roles.
- Harmful Habits: Educating students about the dangers of smoking, alcohol, and other harmful substances.
- Violence and Harassment: Addressing issues of bullying and promoting respectful behavior.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health: Providing age-appropriate information about reproductive health.
The curriculum utilizes interactive teaching methods, such as discussions, videos, and group work, to engage students and encourage positive behavioral changes. Teachers receive comprehensive manuals and training to effectively deliver the curriculum. The program also emphasizes the involvement of parents and caregivers to reinforce healthy habits at home. |
