BTEC Business Studies

The BTEC Business Studies curriculum equips students with business knowledge and skills for future careers. The Level 3 BTEC National qualifications include the Extended Certificate (equivalent to one A Level) and the Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels). The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. BTEC qualifications are valued by employers for their practical skills development. They are also accepted by universities, including those in the Russell Group.

Year 12 Units

Year 12 students typically study the following units:

BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business:

This qualification consists of three mandatory units and one optional unit. Units 1 and 2 are often taught alongside each other, with Unit 3 commencing afterwards.

  • Unit 1: Exploring Business: This unit covers business features, stakeholders, marketing, finance, operations, and human resources.
  • Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign: This unit focuses on applying marketing principles and developing a campaign.
  • Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance: This unit introduces personal finance and business financial management.

BTEC National Diploma in Business:

The Diploma includes additional units beyond those in the Extended Certificate.

  • Managing an Event: This internally assessed coursework-based unit focuses on event planning and management.
  • International Business: This internally assessed coursework-based unit explores international business concepts.

BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business:

The Extended Diploma involves further study, with a total of 18 units. It covers a wider range of business topics in greater depth.
