UAE Grade 1 Arabic Syllabus
The Arabic curriculum for Grade 1 in the UAE is designed to develop foundational language skills in young learners. Arabic instruction is compulsory for all students in Grade 1, regardless of their native language. The curriculum adheres to the guidelines set by the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE). Schools offering the American curriculum also include Arabic as a core subject.
For native Arabic speakers, the curriculum focuses on enhancing existing language skills, while for non-native speakers, it introduces the fundamentals of the Arabic language. The curriculum covers the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Some schools may use textbooks such as "Alyasameen Arabic Language Course for Kids" or "I Learn Arabic Simplified Curriculum Textbook".
In addition to textbooks, the MoE provides various resources and frameworks to support the implementation of the curriculum. The MoE also emphasizes the use of Standard Arabic for teaching the Arabic curriculum. A proposal for assessing Arabic skills in first-grade pupils was reviewed in May 2024. A five-week course on developing Arabic reading fluency in Grade 1 was offered in September 2023. A sample lesson for non-Arab students in Grade 1 is available on YouTube. |
