UAE Grade 1 Mathematics Syllabus

This syllabus outlines the key learning objectives for Mathematics in Grade 1 within the UAE education system. It is structured by term, providing a breakdown of the topics covered throughout the academic year.

Term 1

This term focuses on foundational number concepts and basic operations.

  • Number and Place Value (Up to 20): Students learn to recognize, read, and write numbers up to 20. They develop an understanding of place value, recognizing the value of digits in ones and tens places.
  • Addition and Subtraction (Up to 20): Introduction to addition and subtraction operations using numbers up to 20. Students learn to interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (-), and equals (=) signs.
  • Shapes and Solids: Basic geometric concepts are introduced, including identifying and naming common 2D shapes and 3D solids.

Term 2

Building upon the foundation from Term 1, this term expands number knowledge and introduces new concepts.

  • Number and Place Value (Up to 100): Students extend their understanding of numbers and place value up to 100.
  • Addition and Subtraction (Up to 100): Addition and subtraction operations are extended to include numbers up to 100.
  • Multiplication (Introduction): The concept of multiplication is introduced, often through visual representations and concrete examples.
  • Measurement (Introduction): Students begin to explore measurement, learning about basic units of length, weight, and capacity.

Term 3

This term reinforces previously learned concepts and introduces further mathematical topics.

  • Number and Place Value (Consolidation up to 100): Students consolidate their understanding of numbers and place value up to 100.
  • Addition and Subtraction (Consolidation up to 100): Further practice and application of addition and subtraction with numbers up to 100.
  • Time: Telling time to the hour and half-hour is introduced.
  • Data Handling (Introduction): Basic data handling concepts are introduced, such as collecting and organizing data using simple charts and graphs.
  • Revision: Review and reinforcement of key concepts learned throughout the year.

This syllabus provides a general overview, and specific learning objectives and activities may vary between schools within the UAE. Additional resources and materials may be used to supplement the core curriculum.
