UAE Grade 1 Social Studies Syllabus

Course Description:

The UAE Grade 1 Social Studies curriculum aims to develop students' understanding of themselves, their families, communities, and the world around them. It introduces basic concepts in history, geography, civics, and economics, focusing on the UAE's culture, heritage, and traditions. The curriculum encourages students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who respect diversity and understand their roles as responsible citizens.

Key Topics:

  • The UAE:
      • Union Day (December 2nd): Formation of the UAE and the unification of the seven emirates.
      • National Symbols: Flag, National Anthem, Emblem, and UAE Dirham.
      • Leaders: His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi) and Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai).
      • Culture and Heritage: Traditions, customs, and important landmarks.
      • Seven Emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.
  • My Family and Community:
      • Family Diversity: Different types of families and their roles.
      • My School: The school environment and its importance.
      • Living in a Community: Understanding different roles and responsibilities within a community.
  • Global Citizenship:
      • Understanding different cultures and traditions around the world.
      • Celebrations around the world.
  • Maps and Geography:
      • Basic map skills and identifying locations.
      • Different types of homes around the world and how they are influenced by geography and resources.
  • Economic Choices:
      • Needs and wants, and how communities use resources.
      • Human-made systems and how they meet the needs of communities.

Learning Resources:

Ministry of Education (MOE) textbooks and other age-appropriate resources are used to support the curriculum.

Assessment:

Formative and summative assessments are used to evaluate students' understanding of the concepts and skills taught in the course.
