UAE Grade 10 English Curriculum

This curriculum aims to equip students with essential English language skills, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, listening, and media literacy. The curriculum aligns with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) proficiency levels and incorporates a four-skills exam system, supplemented by integrated-skills project work. Assessment methods are adapted to the students' educational stage and needs, employing diverse approaches to gauge knowledge, skills, and progress. External benchmark assessments, such as the GL-PT test series (PTE, PTM, PTS) in English, Mathematics, and Science, are also utilized.

Literature

The Grade 10 English Literature component exposes students to a variety of literary genres, including novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and non-fiction. The curriculum emphasizes developing skills in close reading, evidence-based writing, vocabulary usage in context, and precise language. Resources such as "Literature, Grade 10: An Adapted Reader" and "Into Literature Student Edition Softcover VRS1" are available.

Skills Development

The curriculum focuses on developing key skills in oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy. Students are encouraged to refine their listening, speaking, and writing skills through diverse activities and exercises. Emphasis is placed on analyzing idea development in essays and adapting texts to different audiences and purposes. The "UAE English Skills" textbook series is used for Grades 7, 8, and 10, aiming to enhance English language proficiency.

Assessment Methods

Assessment in the UAE Grade 10 English curriculum is multifaceted. Formative assessment methods are employed to provide instructional feedback and guide learning. Summative evaluations are conducted to measure overall learning outcomes. Formal assessments, such as the TOEFL and IELTS, may be used to assess English language proficiency for academic or professional purposes. Informal classroom-based assessments are also integrated into the curriculum. The Ministry of Education UAE provides resources and training on assessment literacy for educators.
