UAE Grade 5 Social Studies Curriculum (MOE)
This curriculum aims to develop students' understanding and evaluation of social, political, economic, and environmental factors. It emphasizes connections between people and nations worldwide and the impact of science and technology on societies. Government schools use Arabic as the primary language of instruction, with English taught as a second language, often used for technical or scientific subjects. Private schools in the UAE offer various curricula, including the MOE curriculum, the International Baccalaureate (IB), and British, American, and other international syllabi. The MOE curriculum is divided into cycles: Cycle 1 (Grades 1-4), Cycle 2 (Grades 5-8), and Cycle 3 (Grades 9-12).
Subjects Covered
The MOE curriculum for Grades 1-8 includes Islamic Education, Arabic, Social Studies, Moral Education, English, Mathematics, Science, and Arts. Social Studies is further divided into three main subjects: UAE Social Studies (infused with Moral Education), UK History, and Geography. UAE Social Studies receives 900 minutes of teaching time per term.
UAE Social Studies
This subject integrates Moral Education and covers topics such as national identity, cultural heritage, and ancient civilizations. One example is the study of falconry, an ancient sport symbolizing pride and prestige in the UAE, with the best season being November to April. The curriculum also explores moral issues through stories and discussions. Students learn about the founding leaders of the UAE and its current national identity. They also study ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia, located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Moral Education
Moral Education lessons are based on principles of solidarity, equality, and inclusion. The UAE Moral, Social, and Cultural Studies program prepares learners for rapid societal changes and the need to analyze trends in moral, community, civic, and cultural aspects. |
