UAE Grade 8 Moral Education Syllabus (Ministry of Education Curriculum)
This syllabus outlines the topics covered in the Moral Education course for Grade 8. The curriculum emphasizes universal values, moral thinking, and understanding of oneself, the community, and the state. It is built upon four pillars: character and morality, the individual and the community, cultural studies, and civic studies.
First Semester
- Introduction Unit: Empathy and Assuming Responsibility: This unit focuses on developing empathy and a sense of responsibility. Topics include respect as the basis of good treatment, aspects of equality, moral rules, establishing positive relationships, assuming responsibility and self-esteem, and diseases and social responsibility.
- Unit 1: Ethics in the Context of Communities: This unit explores the concept of community and its importance. Topics include the definition of community, the role of communities, different forms of communities, guaranteeing the safety of communities, and communities and social groups in the UAE.
- Unit 2: Valuing Diversity: This unit emphasizes understanding and appreciating diversity. Topics include understanding diversity and equality, tolerance, looking beyond appearances, celebrating differences, and appreciating positive attitudes.
Second Semester
- Unit 3: Ethics in the Context of Communities (continued): This unit delves into the consultative governance in the UAE. Topics include the Majlis as a traditional means of consultation, Sheikh Zayed's role in establishing the Federal National Council, the consultative governance system in the UAE, traditional elements of the UAE government, and combining the Majlis concept with modern technologies.
Third Semester
- Unit 4: Morality in the Context of States: This unit focuses on understanding the role of morality in the context of states and governments. Topics include understanding state and government, laws, good governance in the past and present, the government in the UAE, and the importance of ethics in government.
- Unit 5: Dealing with Conflict: This unit explores conflict resolution. Topics include internal conflicts, managing internal conflicts, external conflicts, managing external conflicts, and resolving conflicts.
- Unit 6: Moral Education in Action: This unit encourages practical application of moral principles.
This curriculum aims to foster universal values such as fairness, caring, honesty, resilience, tolerance, and respect. It encourages students to develop moral thinking skills and become active and responsible members of their families, communities, and the wider society. |
