UAE Grade 1 Islamic Education
Introduction
The UAE Grade 1 Islamic Education curriculum aims to provide students with a foundational understanding of Islamic principles and practices. The curriculum focuses on developing students' moral character, strengthening their Islamic identity, and fostering a love for Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. The curriculum is based on six key areas: Divine Revelation, Islamic Creed, Values and Manners of Islam, Islamic Rulings and their Higher Purposes, Life of the Prophet and Prominent Muslim Personalities, and National Identity and Contemporary Issues. Islamic studies is compulsory for Muslim students in UAE schools from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
Curriculum Overview
The Grade 1 curriculum covers various topics, including:
- Allah is My Lord: This unit introduces students to the concept of Allah as the creator and sustainer of the universe. Students learn about Allah's attributes, such as mercy and compassion. They also learn the importance of thanking Allah for His blessings.
- Surah Al-Fatiha: Students learn to recite and memorize Surah Al-Fatiha, the first chapter of the Quran. They also learn the meaning and significance of this Surah.
- Truthfulness: This unit emphasizes the importance of honesty and truthfulness in Islam. Students learn about the rewards of truthfulness and the consequences of lying.
- Pillars of Islam: Students are introduced to the five pillars of Islam: Shahada (declaration of faith), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting), and Hajj (pilgrimage).
- Surah Al-Fil: Students learn to recite and memorize Surah Al-Fil, which tells the story of the army of elephants that tried to destroy the Kaaba. This Surah highlights Allah's protection of His Holy House.
- Birth of Prophet Muhammad: Students learn about the birth and early life of Prophet Muhammad. This unit fosters love and respect for the Prophet.
- Allah, the All-Compassionate: This unit focuses on Allah's attribute of mercy and compassion. Students learn about examples of Allah's mercy towards His creation.
- Surah Al-Falaq: Students learn to recite and memorize Surah Al-Falaq, a Surah seeking protection from evil.
- Bedtime Supplication: Students learn the supplication to be recited before going to bed.
- Abu Hurayrah: Students learn about the companion Abu Hurayrah, known for his kindness to animals.
- Wudu (Ablution): Students learn the steps of wudu, the ritual washing performed before prayer.
- Kindness to Animals: This unit emphasizes the importance of treating animals with kindness and compassion in Islam.
- Surah Al-Ikhlas: Students learn to recite and memorize Surah Al-Ikhlas, which emphasizes the oneness of Allah.
- Pillars of Islamic Belief: Students learn about the six pillars of faith in Islam: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree.
- Islamic Etiquette of Cleanliness: This unit highlights the importance of cleanliness in Islam, covering personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
- A Muslim Helps his Brother: This unit emphasizes the importance of helping others in Islam.
- I love my Family: This unit focuses on the importance of family ties and respecting family members.
- Prophet Muhammad in the Care of his Grandfather and Uncle: Students learn about the Prophet's early life and the care he received from his grandfather and uncle.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of Grade 1, students are expected to be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of Allah as the creator and sustainer.
- Recite and memorize key Surahs and supplications.
- Understand the importance of truthfulness and kindness.
- Identify the pillars of Islam and Islamic belief.
- Apply Islamic etiquette in daily life.
