What’s your name?
My name is Jane and I am a Science and Mathematics Teacher.
What’s your teaching experience?
I have taught young children from ages varying from 7 – 12 years old at the Small Little bean tuition centre in 2015. Apart from that, I was engaged in private tutoring for year 1 to 10 students for a duration of more than 1 year.
How do you teach that helps students learn efficiently?
In my experience, typically give them a brief quiz to go over the previous sessions’ topics and see what they remember and or where they may need additional work. After the review, I try to connect how those previous topics relate to what we’re going over in the current session. I go through the lesson, which typically involves the student reading material aloud and discussing the prompts with me. Finally, I leave at least five minutes at the end of the session for any additional questions about the material.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
I believe all teachers become interested in teaching because they enjoy teaching students regarding book knowledge and enjoy helping to mould students into what they have the potential to become. I feel like teaching, being a helping profession, is more of a calling than a career choice. Teachers do truly have the power to change lives. Ive experienced that myself first hand through the teachers that have helped me over the years. Other than enjoying being around children and helping them to become well-rounded adults.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I enjoy learning communication skills and having discussions with like-minded people about anything related to elementary teaching. Hoping to benefit from my existing teaching experience, and bring some value to myself.
