What’s your name?
My name is Janice Kiong and I am an English and Mathematics Teacher.
What’s your teaching experience?
I have taught young children from ages varying from 2 – 6 years old at NTUC First Campus – My First Skool. I have been teaching for the past 5 years in a preschool setting. Apart from that, I was engaged in private tutoring for Primary 1 to 3 students for a duration of 3 years.
How do you teach that helps students learn efficiently?
As a former preschool educator, I believe that learning through play is a vital as it allows students to enjoy the process of learning. By coming out with fun and engaging activities with specific concepts in mind, I will engage the students in an immersive learning experience where they can make use of things around them to learn. Furthermore, the lessons planned are progressive so that students will be able to follow through easily as they build up their foundation.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
I enjoy coming out with fun and engaging ways to introduce new concepts to the students. By using a different approach, it helps make the lesson less “dry” and more interesting to participate in. I like it when the students have the “eureka” moments as they realise how they can apply the concepts taught to use.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I take joy in learning new skills and trying out various things. I particularly enjoy exploring different food recipes and recreating various food items.
