Upon completion of my CELTA, which is the most widely recognised English teaching qualification in the world, I travelled to Vietnam and taught IELTS and Business English as a volunteer teacher. Back in Malaysia, I worked as a Secondary English Teacher at a Cambridge international school in Kuala Lumpur, where I’ve learned to create engaging online lessons, organise English enrichment events, and set Cambridge-format assessments.

My experience as an ASEAN Scholar and international student in Singapore has helped me to understand the pain points of English learners in Asia, such as the overemphasis on correctness rather than communicative ability. As such, it is my promise that all of my students would find real-world utility in every single English lesson of mine. After all, perfect grammar and straight A’s are of no use if one couldn’t connect meaningfully with the global audience.

I genuinely enjoy teaching because when I teach, I learn! I learn about the latest trends and social phenomena of an entire generation just as much as my students appreciate and manipulate the English language for academic, business, and intellectual purposes.
When I’m not teaching, I would embark on backpacking trips across Southeast Asia to enrich myself and expand my horizon. Perhaps the most valuable return of an excellent command of English for me is the ability to see the world as my oyster and thrive everywhere I go. Because when language is not a problem, half the battle is already won.
