What’s your name?
My name is Yeo Jun Xiang. I’m a full-time JC Maths tutor.
What’s your teaching experience?
As a post-graduated student in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), I was positioned as part-time teaching assistant in teaching year 1 and year 2 undergraduate students in engineering maths and lab experiments. After graduated my PhD of School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the year of 2015, I was hired as a full time tutor in teaching upper secondary school and JC H1/H2 maths. Provided small group (up to 8 students) and one-on-one tutoring to students.
How do you teach that helps students learn effectively?
Building reflective skills help student analyze their learning and understand what they learnt and how they have learnt it. Written and verbal reflection promote critical thinking. Students process information and show that they understand concepts as they explore their experiences and outcomes. I hope my students can find their PPAP in studying and career in the futures.
P (Purpose), P (Passion), A (Action), P (Plan). Students need to know what’s their purpose of studying, for example, get a better result to study their dream course or university. Or getting a scholarship or qualify for financial aid in further studies. Be clear about the goals, so they will have the passion and take action to study. Plan their own schedule in learning and do revision.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
I enjoy teaching because it gives me a sense of accomplishment to see my students understand the concepts and know how to apply them. Most importantly, they are able to achieve better result and pursue their desired course in university.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I’m the father of two princesses. One of the reasons for me to becomes full-time tutor is because of them. I can have more flexible time to read, play and take care of them. I hope I can help my students just like a father educate his children.
