What’s your name?
My name is Kenneth Bernaldez. I am an English teacher and a Behaviour Therapist for children with special needs.
What’s your teaching experience?
I have been a teacher for 20 years. My experience as a teacher is quite varied and expansive. Back in the Philippines I have taught in the primary and the secondary levels up to the University level where I taught Asian History to Nursing students. I worked in Singapore for 11 years as Behaviour therapist/Learning Support Teacher in a school for children with special needs. As a Behaviour Therapist/Learning Support teacher, I conducted one to one session with children ranging from the ages of 2 to 14 years old. At the said school I was tasked to teach children learning readiness skills, literacy, phonics as well as math.
What qualifications do you have? (Bachelor’s in education, CELTA, TESOL, etc)
I am registered teacher. I hold a degree in Psychology, a diploma in TESOL as well as a certificate in teaching literacy through phonics.
How do you teach that helps students learn efficiently?
As a teacher I believe that learning should be a process of discovery for the learner. Meaning, a class or a session should be planned in such a way that the learner will have the opportunity to be actively engage in his/her discovery of knowledge. The teacher should only be the facilitator. When a child has hands on experience of what’s being taught, the concept will be embedded, and the child will have a deeper understanding of its application.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
I enjoy teaching because I get to see the growth of each student, not only academically but also character wise. I also love interacting with my learners. I enjoy helping them connect the dots and eventually understand the gist of a concept.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I like the outdoors. I love running and hiking. I am also into photography. I used to be a footballer. I was part of my university’s football team back in the day. Basically, I am an active, energetic individual.
