Numbers and Operations
- Place Value: Counting to 999, skip counting by 10s and 100s to 999, representing numbers 100-999 with pictures or objects.
- Addition: Addition up to 999 using place value.
- Subtraction: Subtraction up to 999 using the renaming method, solving number sentences with missing numbers.
- Advanced Place Value: Counting to 99,999, using place value to read numerals within larger numbers.
- Advanced Addition: Addition up to 9999 and beyond using place value, solving word problems.
- Advanced Subtraction: Subtraction involving four-digit numbers and beyond using the renaming method.
- Multiplication: Multiples and factors of whole numbers, calculating the product of squared numbers.
- Division: Using sharing concepts to solve and record division problems.
- Multiplication as Repeated Addition: Writing about and counting equal groups and rows using different methods.
- Multiplication Sign: Multiplying single numbers to solve multiplication problems.
- Ordering Numbers: Using place value to order numbers up to 20.
- Simple Addition: Writing simple number sentences for addition up to 10 and 20, writing addition in a vertical format.
- Division Strategies: Sharing objects equally.
- Fractions: Understanding and using fractions (1/2, 1/4, 1/8) to describe parts of a whole and groups, comparing and ordering fractions, mixed numbers, improper fractions, fractions with denominators 5, 10, and 100, equivalent fractions, subtracting fractions from whole numbers, adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, calculating unit fractions of a collection.
- Decimals: Introduction to decimals, comparing and ordering decimals to two and three decimal places, decimals with whole numbers, adding and subtracting decimals with the same and different number of decimal places, using decimals in shopping and measurement problems.
Measurement
- Length: Reading and calculating distances on a map using kilometers, comparing and converting formal units of measurement (millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer).
- Volume: Introduction to volume using cubic centimeters, constructing three-dimensional objects, calculating volume using the formula, understanding the relationship between length, breadth, height, and volume.
- Capacity: Using cubic centimeters and displacement to measure volume and capacity, understanding the relationship between liters and milliliters, converting between volume and capacity using kiloliters and liters, estimating, measuring, and comparing the capacity of containers, converting between milliliters and liters.
- Weight/Mass: Using the kilogram as a measure of mass, weighing items using scales, understanding grams and net mass.
Geometry
- Angles: Measuring angles using a protractor, identifying types of angles, parallel lines, corresponding, co-interior, and alternate angles, measuring and classifying angles, measuring angles in a triangle.
- 2-D Shapes: Recognizing and naming two-dimensional shapes (pentagons, hexagons), analyzing spatial properties of quadrilaterals, recognizing and naming triangles according to their properties.
- 3-D Shapes: Constructing rectangular prisms using cubic centimeter blocks, explaining the advantages of using a cube to measure volume, constructing different rectangular prisms.
Data Analysis
- Pictograms: Organizing, reading, and summarizing information in picture graphs.
- Bar Charts: Organizing, reading, and summarizing information in column graphs.
- Line Graphs: Organizing, reading, and summarizing information in line graphs.
Assessment
- Formative assessments and a tailored study plan are created throughout the course.
- Summative exam at the end of the course.
