South Korea Middle School Grade 7 Curriculum - Mathematics

Middle school in South Korea covers grades 7-9. Students typically enter middle school at age 12 and graduate at age 14 or 15. Mathematics is a core subject in middle school, continuing from elementary school. Other core subjects include Korean, English, social studies, and science. Students also receive instruction in music, art, physical education, Korean history, ethics, home economics, secondary language, technology, and Hanja.

The South Korean mathematics curriculum has undergone several revisions. The 7th national curriculum, announced in 1997, was the last full-scale revision. The 2009 mathematics curriculum for middle school comprises five content domains: Numbers and Operations, Variables and Expressions, Functions, Probability and Statistics, and Geometry. A more recent revision of the mathematics curriculum was started in 2020 and announced in 2022.

In Grade 7, math topics may include simplifying algebraic expressions, combining addition and subtraction. Additional resources for Grade 7 math practice, including tests, worksheets, and other activities, are available online. Korean language math textbooks for Grade 7 are also available.
