What’s your name?
My name is Michelle Botha and I am a drama teacher.
What’s your teaching experience?
I started teaching private tuition during my time in polytechnic while studying my diploma in Applied Drama and Psychology. Upon graduating, I worked at a private tuition center teaching primary and secondary English. Following that I worked for close to two years in ACT3 Drama Academy as a full-time drama teacher. I taught ages 18 months to 16 years old.
How do you teach that helps students learn efficiently?
I believe that every child is unique in their needs and the approach required to engage them. I strongly believe in an empowering, encouraging and supportive teaching style. I am always open to growing and adapting how I teach and communicate in order to allow the children to learn and express themselves better.
Why do you enjoy teaching?
I find great joy in getting to see children blossom and grow in their unique skills and talents in the area of the arts. Every child will develop creatively differently and it is always a pleasure to guide and support them as they learn to find the words and modes to best express themselves.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I love poetry. I love collecting poetry books and writing my own poetry. I love going to poetry events and stand-up poetry open mics.
