Saint Vincent and the Grenadines CXC CAPE Green Engineering
The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) offers Green Engineering as a subject in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) program. This course applies Scientific, Technological, Engineering, and Mathematical (STEM) principles to address environmental challenges. The syllabus is divided into two units, each consisting of three modules requiring 50 hours of study. In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) offers the CAPE program, including Green Engineering. The entry requirements for Green Engineering at SVGCC include a Grade I or II in CSEC Mathematics or a GCE equivalent, and one science subject.
In 2016, CXC launched the Green Engineering CAPE subject. Teacher training initiatives have been conducted to support the implementation of the Green Engineering syllabus, including the development of resources such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, demonstrations, experiments, group activities, and multiple-choice questions. A three-day boot camp was also hosted by CXC for teachers and Curriculum Officers from 13 Caribbean states to enhance their understanding of the CAPE Green Engineering syllabus.
In 2024, CXC briefly considered suspending Green Engineering, along with other technical subjects, due to low student enrollment. However, this decision was reversed shortly after, ensuring the continuation of Green Engineering as a CAPE subject. |
