Saint Vincent and the Grenadines CXC CAPE Literatures in English

This course aims to cultivate an understanding of literature's nature and function, along with the methods used in literary studies. It encourages critical reading, interpretation, evaluation, appreciation, and informed personal responses to literature. The syllabus seeks to develop well-rounded Caribbean individuals with high self-esteem, respect for human life, environmental consciousness, and pride in their cultural heritage and diversity.

The syllabus comprises two units, each covering the three literary genres: Drama, Poetry, and Prose Fiction. Each unit includes a core component requiring study of:

  • One play by Shakespeare
  • One work of Caribbean literature
  • One work of poetry
  • One work of prose fiction

Each unit requires the study of at least four texts.
