Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Form 4 School Syllabus - English
This syllabus is based on the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) CSEC English syllabus. It is designed to develop students' abilities to understand and express themselves effectively in both spoken and written English, as well as to appreciate literature. The syllabus is organized into two examinations: English A and English B.
English A focuses on developing oral and written communication skills. Students are tested on their understanding and expression of language through various types of discourse: informative, literary, and persuasive. The examination assesses grammar, mechanics, vocabulary, comprehension, and the ability to analyze and evaluate different forms of communication.
English B emphasizes the study of literature. Students explore works of drama, poetry, and prose fiction from West Indian and other writers. The examination assesses their understanding of literary devices, themes, characterization, and the writer's craft. Students are expected to analyze and interpret literary texts, and to express their informed opinions and judgments in well-structured, analytical responses. |
