Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Form 5 Subjects (CSEC) - Humanities > English A

This course aims to develop students' ability to use Caribbean Standard English (CSE) effectively in both spoken and written forms. The syllabus encourages exploration of three major literary genres: Drama, Poetry, and Prose. Students develop receptive and expressive language skills through analysis and creation of texts within these genres. The course emphasizes critical thinking, comprehension, and effective communication.

Exam Format

The CSEC English A exam consists of three papers:

  • Paper 01 (Multiple Choice): This paper assesses comprehension and language skills through multiple-choice questions based on various stimuli, including poems, literary extracts, and visual extracts.
  • Paper 02 (Essay): This paper tests essay writing skills and analytical abilities.
  • Paper 03 (School-Based Assessment or Alternative Paper): This component focuses on internal assessment of students' oral and written communication skills. The word limit for the SBA is 1000 words.
