Samoa School Syllabus - Mathematics
This document details the Samoa Secondary Mathematics Years 9 to 12 curriculum. It consists of a Common Year 9 Mathematics curriculum with two distinct pathways from Years 10-12: Mathematics and General Mathematics. The Mathematics pathway caters to students pursuing science and commerce streams, while General Mathematics focuses on practical numeracy skills for TVET (Vocational) pathways. The curriculum emphasizes developing "Working Mathematically" skills through inquiry, strategic thinking, reasoning, reflection, and communication. These skills are integrated across seven content strands: Number & Operations, Algebra, Statistics & Probability, Measurement, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Rates of Change & Calculus (Mathematics) or Rates of Change & Modelling Functions (General Mathematics).
Year 9 Mathematics (Common Curriculum)
This curriculum lays the foundation for both pathways, focusing on core mathematical concepts and the development of Working Mathematically skills.
Mathematics Pathway (Years 10-12)
This pathway provides a more rigorous exploration of mathematical concepts, preparing students for further studies in science, commerce, and related fields.
General Mathematics Pathway (Years 10-12)
This pathway emphasizes practical mathematical skills and their application in vocational contexts, such as nursing, teaching, trades, and hospitality. It aims to equip students with the numeracy, graph literacy, financial literacy, and statistical literacy needed for these careers. |
