San Marino Scuola Elementare (Fifth Year) Curriculum - Science

Science

The Science curriculum in fifth year encourages an exploratory approach, emphasizing observation, questioning, hypothesizing, and experimentation. Students engage in hands-on activities and demonstrations, developing their understanding of scientific concepts through active learning. The curriculum focuses on skill development rather than rote memorization. Teachers select priority content within the framework provided, adapting the curriculum to suit their students' needs.

Learning Objectives

  • Exploring and Describing Objects and Materials: Students learn to identify scientific concepts through concrete experiences, recognize patterns in phenomena, grasp the concept of energy, understand the properties of materials, experiment with simple solutions in water, and learn about soil structure. They also utilize various resources like books and the internet to find information and answers to their questions.
  • Field Observation and Experimentation: Students learn to use and construct simple measuring tools, observe and diagram changes in states of matter, conduct recurring observations, describe and interpret the function of the human body as a complex system within an environment, understand the interconnectedness of life forms, develop basic animal and plant classification skills, and interpret environmental transformations, particularly those caused by human activity. They also learn to clearly articulate their experimental findings using appropriate scientific language.
  • Humans, Living Organisms, and the Environment: Students learn to describe and interpret the function of the human body as a complex system within an environment, recognize the interconnectedness of life, develop basic animal and plant classification skills, and interpret environmental transformations, particularly those caused by human activity. They are encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility and respect for the environment.
