San Marino Scuola Secondaria Superiore - Liceo Classico: Latin
The Liceo Classico is the oldest secondary school in the Republic of San Marino, founded in 1883. It offers a broad and in-depth education, focusing on developing critical thinking skills and a flexible mindset. The school aims to provide a complete foundational education, emphasizing awareness of one's origins while preparing students for the future. Graduates are equipped to access any university faculty. Small class sizes allow for close student-teacher relationships.
Curriculum Overview:
The Liceo Classico curriculum combines a strong humanities focus with opportunities in other areas:
- Enhanced English language instruction: Increased hours, study trips abroad, and opportunities for PET and FCE certifications cater to contemporary needs and the job market.
- Science focus: Adequate mathematics instruction and optional courses for students interested in scientific faculties are offered.
- Computer literacy: A vertical computer literacy curriculum is implemented in the first two years.
- Experiential learning: Visits to sites and museums, along with internships at the State Museum's archaeological section, the State Archives and Library, and public broadcasting, enhance learning.
- Study trips: Trips connected to disciplinary pathways, including visits to Rimini, Etruria, Rome, Campania, and Sicily, are a tradition.
- Multidisciplinary activities: Modules on archaeology, theatrical readings of classical texts, meetings and conferences (sometimes in collaboration with the University), and music history lessons in collaboration with the Sammarinese Musical Institute are offered.
Latin Program:
Latin is a core subject within the Liceo Classico curriculum. The second written exam for the Maturità (final exam) in June 2024 focused on Latin and Greek.
