San Marino Scuola Secondaria Superiore - Liceo Linguistico

The Liceo Linguistico at the Scuola Secondaria Superiore in San Marino was established in 1983. It focuses on language acquisition, literature, culture, and the social and institutional structures of prominent Western European countries. The program aims to equip students for the international world of culture and communication.

Curriculum

Students study three foreign languages:

  • English: Considered essential across all sectors worldwide.
  • German: Recognized as a widely used language in commerce.
  • French: Maintains a significant role in international institutions, diplomacy, and economic contexts.

Native speaker tutoring (Lettorato) is provided for one hour per week during the final three years, focusing on a different language each year. Opportunities to obtain language certifications are also available:

  • English: PET, FCE
  • German: ZD B1
  • French: DELF B1/B2

The curriculum emphasizes comparative linguistics, the literary, historical, and social aspects of European cultures, and strengthens scientific disciplines. Educational trips and study weeks abroad are organized (one week per year):

  • 1st Year: English-speaking country
  • 2nd Year: French-speaking country
  • 3rd Year: German-speaking country
  • 4th Year: English-speaking country
  • 5th Year: French- or German-speaking country (determined by teachers)

During these study weeks, students participate in intensive courses and live with host families, enhancing their language skills and cultural understanding. Internship opportunities related to international conventions and sporting events are also available.

The Liceo Linguistico is considered a demanding program, but it offers comprehensive preparation and attentive student support. Graduates can pursue opportunities in companies or activities involving international relations, communication, tourism, art, and entertainment.
