San Marino Geography Overview

San Marino is a landlocked microstate located within Italy, on the northeastern side of the Apennine Mountains. While landlocked, its northeastern border is only about six miles from the Adriatic Sea. It has an irregular rectangular shape and is the third smallest state in Europe after the Holy See and Monaco. The country is crossed by several rivers, including the Ausa, Marano, and San Marino River. Only about 17% of the land is suitable for farming due to its mountainous terrain. More information on the country can be found in the Geography Now! video.
