San Marino Scuola Secondaria Superiore - Liceo Classico: Latin and Greek Seminar

The Liceo Classico is the oldest secondary school in the Republic of San Marino, founded in 1883. Until 1981, it was the only secondary school in the Republic. It offers a humanities-based curriculum spanning five years. The program emphasizes Latin and Ancient Greek, alongside other humanities subjects like Italian and foreign literature, history, philosophy, and art history. It also includes mathematics, physical and natural sciences.

Curriculum:

The Liceo Classico curriculum aims to provide students with a well-rounded education, fostering critical thinking and communication skills through the study of classical literature, history, and philosophy. The program also incorporates:

  • Enhanced English Language Studies: Preparation for Cambridge English Language certificates (PET and FCE), including an extracurricular exam preparation course and a one-week school trip to England.
  • Strengthened Mathematics Program: Increased focus on mathematics, with optional classes for students preparing for scientific university studies.
  • Information Technology: Integrated into the curriculum.
  • Enrichment Activities: Museum visits, lectures, and on-site explorations in Italy related to archaeology, drama, and music history, organized in collaboration with various institutions like the State Museum, State Archives, State Library, and San Marino RTV television.

The Liceo Classico maintains a supportive learning environment with a reasonable student-to-teacher ratio, allowing for personalized attention and a familiar classroom atmosphere. While demanding, the coursework is designed to accommodate students of all abilities.
