San Marino Scuola Secondaria Superiore - Liceo Scientifico: Latin

The Liceo Scientifico at the San Marino Scuola Secondaria Superiore was established in 1991 to broaden the upper secondary school offerings in the country. It is a 5-year program. The curriculum aims to equip students with a rigorous and thorough study method, develop broad cultural interests, and prepare them for university studies, particularly in scientific fields, while also allowing them to pursue any university path.

Curriculum Overview:

The Liceo Scientifico curriculum emphasizes the development of abstract thought, critical thinking, and the ability to discern connections between phenomena. It provides students with the necessary language skills to understand the physical and natural world, history, arts, and human thought. The program includes a range of subjects, including Italian, Latin, English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, science, history, philosophy, geography, art history, computer science, and Sammarinese studies.

Latin Program:

Latin is taught for 3 hours per week throughout the 5-year program. While specific details about the San Marino Latin curriculum are not readily available, Latin is a subject for the second written exam of the Maturità (final exam). This suggests a focus on developing reading comprehension skills, potentially including translation and analysis of Latin texts. In general, Latin curricula at the Liceo Scientifico level often cover grammar, vocabulary, syntax, and the study of classical authors and texts.

Extracurricular Activities:

The Liceo Scientifico also offers various extracurricular activities to enhance the educational experience, including field trips, physics laboratory activities, participation in Math and Physics Olympiads, orientation internships, multidisciplinary projects, and theatrical productions.
