Saudi Arabia Grade 10 Accounting (International School Example)
This course entry is based on the syllabus outline from the Advanced International School Riyadh (AISR) for the academic year 2020-2021. Course Description:
This course introduces students to fundamental accounting principles and practices. Topics covered include managing irrecoverable debts, bank reconciliation statements, journal entries and error correction, control accounts, incomplete records, and accounts for clubs and societies.
Topics Covered:
- Irrecoverable Debts and Provision for Doubtful Debts: Introduction to irrecoverable debts, recovery of debts, reducing possibilities of bad debts, creating and adjusting provisions for doubtful debts. (Pages 171-184 in the AISR textbook)
- Bank Reconciliation Statement: Introduction to bank reconciliation, differences between bank accounts and statements, stages of bank reconciliation, and bank overdrafts. (Pages 194-205)
- Journal Entries and Correction of Errors: Journal entries for various transactions, including purchase and sale of non-current assets, non-regular transactions, and correction of errors; effects of errors on profit and balance sheets. (Pages 206-227)
- Control Accounts: Introduction to control accounts, reasons for using control accounts, adjusted cash books, bank reconciled statements in overdraft situations, and advantages of control accounts. (Pages 228-240)
- Incomplete Records: Introduction to incomplete records, advantages of using incomplete records, statements of affairs, and markup margin. (Pages 241-260)
- Accounts of Clubs and Societies: Statements of affairs, trading accounts, income and expenditure accounts, balance sheets, comparisons, subscriptions, and calculation of sales, purchases, and accumulated funds. (Pages 261-276)
Assessment:
The syllabus outline indicates practice questions and a period for revision before final exams. Final exams at AISR for grades 7-12 began on Sunday, December 20th, and ended on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020.
