Saudi Arabia Grade 9 Arabic Language Syllabus

This course aims to develop students' ability to communicate effectively in Arabic, both verbally and in writing. It covers a variety of topics relevant to their age and interests, fostering awareness of Arabic-speaking cultures. Students are expected to progressively develop their understanding and use of Arabic grammar.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum focuses on all four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) within relevant cultural and contemporary themes. It encourages students to connect their Arabic language learning with other subjects, promoting bilingualism and deeper understanding.

The following topics are typically covered:

1. The Basics: Differentiating between letters, using cardinal and ordinal numbers, and greetings. 2. About Me: Self-introductions, question formation, and nationality. 3. My Family: Family members and comparing people and things. 4. My Job: Jobs, workplaces, and describing people's occupations. 5. At Home: Describing houses, rooms, telling time, and daily routines. 6. Hobbies: Types of hobbies, expressing likes and dislikes, and justifying opinions. 7. What Does He Look Like?: Physical appearance, comparing people, and body parts. 8. My Town: Places in town, giving directions, and describing weather. 9. At School: School subjects, school uniforms, and consolidating likes/dislikes. 10. Transport: Modes of transportation, transportation preferences, and describing modes of transport. 11. Clothes: Items of clothing, describing clothes, seasons, and shopping. 12. Food: Types of food, food items, quantities, meals, recipients, and containers.

Language Content

The curriculum covers short and long vowels, sun and moon letters, numbers, adjectives (feminine and masculine), question formation, the feminine marker, demonstrative pronouns, possessive adjectives, comparative and superlative forms, present, past, and future tenses, prepositions of place, dual/plural forms, personal/possessive/attached pronouns, adverbs of time and frequency, adjectives, comparatives, and quantifiers/intensifiers.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, students should be able to:

• Communicate confidently and coherently in both spoken and written Arabic.
• Express and develop thoughts and ideas spontaneously and fluently.
• Understand clearly articulated, standard speech at near-normal speed.
• Independently use and understand extended language in various contexts.
• Acquire new knowledge, skills, and ways of thinking through understanding and responding to a range of authentic spoken and written materials, including literary texts.

Assessment

Assessment methods include end-of-unit tests, termly level assessments, and an end-of-year exam.

Methodology

A variety of teaching methods are employed, including group work, pair work, individual work, games, various listening and oral activities (such as surveys, role-plays, songs, interviews, and presentations), and different written assignments (such as dialogues, short letters/essays). Information technology and online resources are also integrated into the learning process.

Textbook and Materials

"The Pre-GCSE Arabic Companion" (المرافق الإعدادي عربية) is often used, along with workbooks, CDs, flashcards, worksheets, and online resources.
