Senegal CM2 Curriculum - Science and Technology
The CM2 (Cours Moyen 2ème année) level is the final year of primary school in Senegal. Primary school in Senegal spans six years and is divided into three two-year cycles. Students typically enter primary school at age 7 and complete it at age 12. Upon completion of CM2, students take the CFEE (Certificate of Elementary Completion) exam and an entrance test for the next level of education.
Science and technology are core subjects within the Senegalese primary curriculum, alongside French and mathematics. Other subjects include reading, geography, health care, and hygiene. Senegal has prioritized achieving universal provision of quality primary education. There have been efforts to improve basic education quality through innovation and reform. A project supported by JICA has focused on math, science, and technology teaching in elementary schools. More recently, there's been a focus on early grade reading. There is also a plan to introduce English language instruction at the CM1 and CM2 levels.
While the specific content of the CM2 Science and Technology curriculum remains elusive, it is clear that the subject is considered important within the broader educational goals of Senegal. |
