Senegal Lower Secondary School Curriculum (Collège) - French

The Senegalese education system is modeled after the French system. The lower secondary school (Collège) cycle lasts four years. Students are awarded the Brevet de Fin d'Études Moyennes (BFEM) upon completion of lower secondary school. The BFEM examination was held on July 22, 2024. French is the primary language of instruction in Senegal. While the curriculum includes a variety of subjects, some sources note that primary school teachers often prioritize French and mathematics due to the BFEM exam's focus on these subjects. Secondary schools offer subjects such as Biology, Economics, English, French, History, and Mathematics. Latin is a compulsory subject. Other subjects offered include Greek and Arabic.
