Senegal CE2 Curriculum - French

The CE2 (Cours Élémentaire 2e année) level is the third grade in the Senegalese primary education system, which is modeled after the French system. French is the primary language of instruction across the curriculum.

Curriculum Focus:

  • French Language Arts: The CE2 French curriculum emphasizes developing foundational skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students learn new vocabulary, read for different purposes (including detail), and practice oral communication. Grammar, spelling, and vocabulary are also key components.
  • Reading: A focus on reading comprehension and developing reading strategies is central to the CE2 curriculum. Several programs, such as PALME, aim to improve reading outcomes in French and national languages like Wolof.

Learning Assessment:

Student learning in CE2 is assessed through various methods, including standardized tests like the SNERS (Système National d'Évaluation des Rendements Scolaires). These assessments measure student competency in French and other subjects.

Challenges and Initiatives:

While Senegal has made strides in improving education, challenges remain, including ensuring students achieve proficiency in French. Various initiatives and programs aim to address these challenges and enhance the quality of education.
