Senegal Lower Secondary School Curriculum (Collège)

Senegal's education system is modeled after the French system. Lower secondary education (Collège) follows six years of primary school and lasts for four years. Students typically enter lower secondary school around age 12. Upon completion of lower secondary school, students receive the Brevet d'Études du Premier Cycle (BEPC).

While the specific history curriculum for lower secondary school is not readily available, secondary education in Senegal generally includes a variety of subjects, including history, geography, languages, sciences, art, music, and design. One source mentions a desire for more Senegalese history to be incorporated into the curriculum. In primary school, history courses focus on Senegal and the local community, neighborhood, and environment. It is possible that similar themes are continued in lower secondary school. Latin is a compulsory subject in Senegalese secondary schools. Greek and Arabic are also offered.
