The Senegalese high school system, based on the French model, consists of lower secondary (middle school) for four years and upper secondary (high school) for three years. Students who complete the 9th grade receive the Brevet d’Etudes du Premier Cycle (BEPC). Secondary education can be general or technical, with the general cycle culminating in a baccalaureate, equivalent to a high school diploma. The technical cycle leads to the brevet d’etudes professionnelles (BEP) and the brevet de technicien (BT).

While the specific curriculum for the Classe de Première - Humanities, Literature and Philosophy stream was not found, the general secondary curriculum includes History, Geography, Languages, Sciences, Art and design, Music, Design and Technology, Physical education, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Social Studies, Arts (social sciences and humanities), and vocational subjects, along with some electives. Philosophy is a dominant subject in literary majors and a significant minor in scientific majors within Senegal.
