Senegal Primary School Curriculum - French

The Senegalese primary school curriculum is heavily influenced by the French education system. French is the primary language of instruction. The curriculum emphasizes French grammar and reading, math, science, and geography, with less focus on the arts. Other subjects include reading, health care, and hygiene. While the curriculum aims to incorporate more Senegalese elements, French remains dominant. Primary school in Senegal consists of five stages. In the first three grades, significant instructional time focuses on French language development. Although French is the language of instruction, many students speak other languages at home. Some schools offer bilingual programs, using both French and local languages.
