Seychelles S1 Curriculum - French (introduced as a foreign language)

French is one of the three official languages of Seychelles, alongside Seychellois Creole and English. While Seychellois Creole is the most commonly spoken language, English is gradually introduced as the language of instruction after primary school. French is introduced as a foreign language, typically around grade 6.

The Seychelles Ministry of Education oversees the curriculum, and while specific S1 French syllabus details are not readily available, some resources for teachers and students can be found on their website. The Seychelles National Curriculum Framework provides a general structure for education in the country, including language learning.

Efforts have been made to strengthen French language education in Seychelles. In July 2022, a group of teachers participated in a course in France aimed at boosting French education in Seychelles schools. French is taught from primary one to secondary five, with allocated time per week. Students also have the opportunity to pursue further studies in French at the University of Seychelles.
