Seychelles Primary 1 Curriculum - Social Studies

ELDA 1: Well-being

Children are encouraged to develop healthy habits and a positive relationship with food. Activities include discussions, art, exploration, and problem-solving related to food and water sourcing, preparation, and disposal.

ELDA 2: Identity and Belonging

This ELDA aims to develop a child's sense of self, family, and community. Children explore their own capabilities and build confidence through various activities. They learn about their family roles, cultural practices, and the importance of respecting diversity. Activities include discussions, sharing personal experiences, and exploring similarities and differences between cultures.

ELDA 3: Communication and Language Development

Communication is crucial for learning and social interaction. Children develop their listening, speaking, and pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, stories, and conversations. They learn to express their thoughts and feelings and to understand different communication styles.

ELDA 4: Early Mathematics

Early mathematics focuses on developing number sense, counting, patterns, and problem-solving skills. Children explore mathematical concepts through play, games, and real-world situations. Activities include counting objects, identifying shapes, and solving simple problems.

ELDA 5: Creative Arts

Creative arts encourage children to express themselves through music, dance, drama, and visual arts. They develop their creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills through various activities. These activities include singing, dancing, role-playing, drawing, and painting.

ELDA 6: Knowledge and Understanding of the World

This ELDA focuses on exploring the environment, understanding how things work, and developing basic technology skills. Children investigate their surroundings, learn about different places and cultures, and use simple tools and technology. Activities include exploring the natural environment, using technology, and learning about different cultures.

These ELDAs are integrated into the daily routines and activities, providing a holistic and engaging learning experience for Primary 1 students. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of play, exploration, and interaction with the environment in fostering a child's development and learning. It also highlights the role of parents, families, and the community in supporting the child's learning journey.
