Seychelles Secondary Art and Design Curriculum

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8, and 9)
The Key Stage 3 Art and Design curriculum follows the Cambridge International Lower Secondary Art and Design Curriculum framework. This program aims to provide students with a platform for self-expression, fostering imagination, creativity, and developing transferable skills. Students are encouraged to explore and push boundaries, becoming reflective, critical, and decisive thinkers. They learn to articulate personal responses to their experiences.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop a sense of self as an artist and become increasingly reflective and independent.
- Develop the skills necessary to express creative ideas and communicate visually.
- Understand their place and the place of others in a creative, innovative, and interconnected world.
Course Structure:
All students have a double period of Art timetabled each week in Key Stage 3.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
Students who choose Art & Design as an option in Key Stage 4 will follow the Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design curriculum. This course encourages a range of skills, stimulates aesthetic awareness, knowledge, and critical understanding of art, and provides opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills. A personal and independent perspective is encouraged throughout the course. The syllabus is designed to accommodate a wide range of abilities, materials, and resources, and allows the different skills of the teaching staff to be fully utilized.
