Sierra Leone Primary School Syllabus (Class 5) - ICT Literacy

This syllabus is based on the National Curriculum Framework and Guidelines for Basic Education (revised May 2020) for Sierra Leone.

Class 5: Computer Applications 1

• Unit 1: Introduction to Computer Systems
• Explain the term "computer system."
• State the components of a computer system (hardware, software, users).
• Type using a computer.
• Unit 2: Connecting Computer Parts
• Identify the parts of a computer available for connection.
• Recognize and connect the different parts of a computer correctly.
• Unit 3: Booting a Computer System
• Explain the term "booting."
• Describe the steps for booting a computer.
• Demonstrate how to boot a computer.
• Unit 4: Using the Keyboard
• Identify and recognize the different sections of a keyboard and their functions.
• Recognize the location of the keys that make up each section.
• Unit 5: Windows as an Operating System
• Boot the computer.
• Mention the functions of the desktop.
• Identify program icons on the desktop.
• Use a computer to explore files.
• Copy a file from one folder to another.
• Shut down Windows.
• Unit 6: Care of Computer I
• List ways of taking good care of a computer system.
• Give reasons why computers should be taken care of.
