Sierra Leone Class 1 Religious and Moral Education Syllabus
This syllabus is based on the National Curriculum Framework and Guidelines for Basic Education (revised May 2020). It covers Religious and Moral Education (RME) from Class 1 to Form 3. The syllabus aims to develop learners' reverence for God, understanding of God's creation, and respect for others' religious practices. It emphasizes the importance of love, kindness, sharing, and responsible behavior. The syllabus incorporates stories from both the Bible and Quran.
Class 1 Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to:
- Demonstrate reverence for God's love.
- Understand that God created everything out of love.
- Identify God's gifts and how to use them responsibly.
- Recognize that mankind is one family created by God.
- Understand that all people are equal in God's eyes.
- Learn about Jesus as a gift to the world.
- Understand God's love through stories.
- Learn about Jesus' mission and its continuation in the church.
- Participate in worship and prayer, respecting other religions.
- Learn about people who believe in God.
- Show love and respect for family members.
- Share with family members.
- Appreciate God's gifts of nature.
- Understand baptism in the Christian faith.
- Understand the use of water in the Islamic faith.
- Care for the environment.
- Show respect for themselves and others.
- Participate in worship and respect different forms of worship.
- Practice acceptable behavior and relationships, respecting diverse views.
Class 1 Christianity Units:
- Unit 1: The Goodness of God: Students learn about God's goodness in creating families and the importance of sharing, care, and respect within the family.
- Unit 2: Wonders of the Creation "Water brings life": Students explore the meaning of creation, identify things created by God, and learn about the uses of water.
- Unit 3: God is still working and uses us to do His work: Students learn how God uses people to do his work and identify examples of good people in the Bible.
- Unit 4: Show respect for God's gift of life: Students discuss the purpose of creation, understand that God protects all life, and learn about respecting all living things.
Class 1 Islam Units:
- Unit 1: The Goodness of Allah: Students learn about Allah's goodness in creating families and the importance of sharing, care, and respect within the family.
- Unit 2: Wonders of creation "Water brings life": Students explore the meaning of creation, identify things created by Allah, and learn about the uses of water.
- Unit 3: Allah is still working and uses us to do His work: Students learn how Allah uses people to do his work and identify examples of good people in the Quran.
- Unit 4: Show respect for Allah's gift of life: Students discuss the purpose of creation, understand that Allah protects all life, and learn about respecting all living things.
The syllabus also includes detailed teaching outlines for each unit, with suggested learning outcomes, teaching approaches, assessment methods, and learning resources.
