Singapore JC Mathematics (H1)

This entry details the syllabus and assessment format for the Mathematics (H1) subject offered at Junior Colleges (JC) in Singapore.

Syllabus

The H1 Mathematics syllabus aims to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematical concepts and skills relevant to various fields, including business and social sciences. It comprises three main content strands:

  • Functions and Graphs: This strand covers exponential and logarithmic functions, graphing techniques, and equations and inequalities.
  • Calculus: This strand focuses on differentiation and integration.
  • Probability and Statistics: This strand covers probability, the binomial distribution, and statistical inference.

The syllabus emphasizes the development of mathematical processes and highlights the application of mathematics in real-world contexts.

Assessment

The H1 Mathematics examination consists of a single 3-hour paper worth 100 marks.

The paper is divided into two sections:

  • Section A (Pure Mathematics – 40 marks): This section assesses knowledge and skills related to functions and graphs, calculus, and other pure mathematics topics.
  • Section B (Probability and Statistics – 60 marks): This section assesses knowledge and skills related to probability, statistics, and their applications.

Each question in the examination carries at least 12 marks and may require candidates to apply concepts and skills from multiple topics. Candidates are expected to answer all questions.

More details on the syllabus and assessment format can be found on the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) website.
