Singapore JC Subject - Tamil Language (H1)

This course aims to develop students' proficiency in the Tamil language, enabling them to appreciate the language's richness and cultural significance. The syllabus focuses on comprehension, composition, and oral communication skills.

Assessment Components:

  • Paper 1 (30%): Composition and Comprehension (60 marks, 30 questions, 1 hour 30 minutes)
      • Section 1: Composition (30 marks) - Requires students to write a composition of approximately 300 words on one of the given topics.
      • Section 2: Comprehension (30 marks) - Assesses students' understanding of given passages.
  • Paper 2 (40%): Essay Writing (80 marks, 1 hour 30 minutes)
      • Section 'a': Argumentative Essay (5-10 marks) - Students choose one of two given topics related to current affairs or social issues.
      • Section 'b': Descriptive/Narrative Essay (5-10 marks) - Students choose one of two given topics.
      • Section 'c': Literary Analysis (10-20 marks) - Based on prescribed texts.
  • Oral Examination (25%): (50 marks, 10-15 minutes)
      • Prepared Topic Presentation (20 marks) - Students present on a topic of their choice, followed by questions.
      • Reading Aloud and Discussion (30 marks) - Students read a passage aloud and discuss its content and themes.
  • Project Work (5%): (10 marks, approximately 30 minutes) - Students complete a project based on a chosen topic, demonstrating their research and presentation skills.
